V\u00edsindama\u00f0ur \u00ed ferskvatnsl\u00edffr\u00e6\u00f0i fr\u00e1 H\u00e1sk\u00f3lanum \u00ed \u00d3sl\u00f3 \u00e1ri\u00f0 1985. Hann h\u00f3f st\u00f6rf hj\u00e1 Fiskvei\u00f0istofnuninni \u00ed Reykjav\u00edk sem a\u00f0sto\u00f0arma\u00f0ur \u00e1ri\u00f0 1979 og \u00e1 hverju sumri til 1985. Fr\u00e1 1985-2002 starfa\u00f0i hann sem fiskifr\u00e6\u00f0ingur og verkefnisstj\u00f3ri hj\u00e1 IFF og deildarstj\u00f3ri fr\u00e1 2002-2016. Fr\u00e1 2016 hefur hann veri\u00f0 forma\u00f0ur ferskvatnssvi\u00f0s Haf- og ferskvatnsranns\u00f3kna \u00ed Reykjav\u00edk. Hann hefur veri\u00f0 me\u00f0limur \u00ed ICES vinnuh\u00f3pi um Atlantshafslax s\u00ed\u00f0an 1996. \u00cd v\u00edsindar\u00e1\u00f0gjafanefndinni \u00ed NASCO 2003-2009. Me\u00f0limur \u00edslensku sendinefndarinnar \u00ed NASCO 2008 og yfirma\u00f0ur \u00edslensku sendinefndarinnar \u00ed NASCO 2009. Hann var st\u00fdrih\u00f3psme\u00f0limur CAFF, Circumpolar Biodiversity Diversity Program 2013-2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has given lectures at the University of Iceland and the Agricultural Collage. He has been supervisor\/co-supervisor to 4 masters students.
